Basically:
60,000 children died from Tetanus
120,000 children died of the Measles,
195,000 children died of Perussis/"Whooping Cough"
195,000 children died of Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib)
450,000 children died of Rotavirus
and 480,000 children died of Pneumoccocal Diseases.
Regardless of country, ethnicity, or whether they live in poverty or not, these 1.5 million should not have died, and their deaths could have been prevented. Almost everything we've talked about, up until this point, regarding anti-vaccine has been theoretical, as in "autism is caused by vaccines", as in it cannot be proven, but nor can it be disproved. But the statistics above, are cold hard fact. You cannot argue with that, surely?
In a more recent article, it's estimated, that a child dies every 20 seconds from a vaccine preventable disease.
Below, I will post personal stories, of mothers and parents who have lost, to some or any extent, their babies and children to vaccine preventable diseases, because I feel that their verbal words can express a thousand times more than I can. I will do a brief summary under each video.
"When you're looking at a child who's sick, and knowing that's something you've created; that the decision you made inevitably caused this to happen to your child, the guilt you feel is awful"
This is an interview with a mother who basically avoided having to make the decision to vaccinate or not, speaking about her small daughter contracting measles at a birthday party, and ending up hospitalised, and extremely ill. Her hearing is permanently damaged because of the measles, and a perforated eardrum which may never heal. At times she she almost entirely deaf. She cannot have hearing aids, or be helped, and has to struggle.
"They had got a positive test result, which indicated pertussis... And from there it was a very quick decline, he was very ill, and it was... it was fast and it was terrible. We watched him die from pertussis."
An interview with a mother, who lost her baby son to pertussis AKA whooping cough.
"On that day, Nathan was unusually quiet in the backseat of the car. When I looked in the rear-view mirror, I noticed that Nathan's eyes had rolled to the back of his head. I stopped the car, and he literally fell out of his seat. Nothing worked on one side of his body. His face had dropped, he was drooling, he couldn't speak, and he seemed to be on the verge of losing consciousness."
A mother shares her story, of her 2 and a half year old son, who had an acute stroke due to scar tissue forming on the brain after chickenpox, leaving her son severely disabled. She was not even aware there was a vaccine for chickenpox.
"It was a relief for me, knowing that Hepatitis B could stop with me, and didn't have to get passed on to my daughter"
Several mothers and woman talking about being diagnosed with Hep B, which is most commonly spread from mother to baby, and how through vaccinations they can prevent it being spread from one generation to another.
"The single most affective thing parents can do is have their child vaccinated. Don't make the mistake we did. Don't think "it's just the flu", influenza does kill."
A mother and father talking about their young daughter becoming ill with the "flu" (influenza), she later died during the night.
"What happened to me, doesn't have to happen to you"
A young man talks about nearly dying of, and loosing his limbs to meningococcal meningitis. He was not even aware until afterwards that there is a readily available vaccine, which could have prevented this.
"I hope that no one else has to hold their child while they die"
A mother talks about her five year-old daughter's sudden death caused by Pneumococcal Disease.
"People are at risk if they have had chickenpox, and almost everyone has had chickenpox"
A woman speaks about her husband's ordeal with shingles, which caused him unbearable pain and loss of the use of one of his eyes.
70 year old Martha, talks about having been in an iron lung for 60 years due to the polio epidemic. She says the last iron lung machine was made in 1977. This is because, in the western world, we no longer see polio, it has been almost entirely eradicated by use of vaccine.
"It was horrible to watch her suffer like that, and knowing I could have prevented it... ...my actions caused my kids to suffer, and that's kind of a hard thing to swallow"
Parents speaking about first their daughter, then their baby son being hospitalised for rotavirus, which causes severe diarrhoea and leads to extreme dehydration and even death.
Mother and caregiver raise awareness about the affects of rubella, telling the story of 20 year old Samantha, who is profoundly deafblind because of this now preventable disease.
No matter what your stance on vaccines is, you should watch these videos, if not, there are plenty out there, as many of these fatal illnesses in children start off with flu-like symptoms. Anybody who is, or ever will be, a parent, grandparent, caregiver, whatever, should be educated about these diseases, especially if you are choosing not to vaccinate, and that is your right. But these illnesses are real. They can cripple or kill, that is fact. They are preventable.
